How Distance Healing Supports You From Afar

Take a moment right now to think of someone you love—someone you truly care about. In that brief moment, you might experience a profound sense of connection, almost as if they are in the room with you, sitting by your side, or standing right next to you.

Connection, as we know, isn’t governed by physical location. Connection is heartfelt, sending loving thoughts to someone.

It is exactly the same in the world of energy work and distance healing. We do not need to be in the physical presence of the person when we send out distance healing. While traditional healing sessions often take place in a quiet room, distance healing allows us to share that same experience—in a slightly different, unique way—creating an intentional, supportive space no matter where you are in the world.

My own distance healing work grew significantly during the years of COVID, and today, I am deeply grateful to support clients located all around the globe. It is also super useful for when someone cannot get to me physically either due to distance or commitments.

Working with Chakras, Light, and Intention

During a distance healing session, I am a channel for a healing energy that I direct on to the individual. The focus may be directed to what the Reiki tradition understands as the body’s energy centres, known as chakras.

Rebalancing the Energy Centres: During a session, I may sense that a specific chakra would benefit from balancing. When this happens, I often visualize and send different light frequencies to those areas to help restore harmony.

Targeted vs. General Healing: The energy can be directed toward a specific physical part of the body that needs support, or it can be sent as a broad, gentle wave of energy—often experienced by the recipient as a warm surge of compassion, love, or an uplifting sense of joy.

The Different Ways Distance Healing Takes Place

Distance healing is deeply adaptable to your life and schedule. In my practice, it generally takes three distinct forms:

  • Individual Remote Sessions: You ask for healing, and I set aside dedicated time to focus purely on you using your name or a photograph. I will let you know the time, and if possible, you can sit quietly or lie down to receive it. If that isn’t convenient, we simply trust that the energy will be received at the right time for you later in the day or evening.
  • Interactive Online Sessions: We meet face-to-face over a live Zoom call. During this time, I focus directly on rebalancing your energy based on what I intuitively sense or what you’ve specifically asked to focus on during our consultation.
  • Group Distance Healing: Healing can also be shared collectively. I host and participate in several healing groups where we gather to send out distant healing, taking nominations each week or month for individuals, causes, or loved ones in need of support.

I’m sure there are other ways as well, but these forms allow flexibility depending on what feels right for you.

Holding the Space: What Happens on My End

During a session, I am simply a channel for the energy, holding the highest frequency of love and positive intention.

Above all, I release all expectations of how the energy is received. Much like prayer—where one holds another in deep, loving intent—we trust that the energy goes where it is needed most.

A Practice Rooted in Balance

For a practitioner to hold this space effectively, it is essential for me to keep my own self, mind, body and energy, balanced and clear. I do this by a variety of ways including meditation, regular energy clearing, exercise, clean diet, plenty of water and yoga.

Reiki is rooted in deep respect for personal autonomy, which means there are a few essential rules we always follow:

  • Explicit Consent: A recipient must always agree to receive distance healing. One person cannot request a session for someone else without asking them first.
  • Respecting Boundaries: Some people simply do not wish to receive energy work, and those boundaries must always be honoured.
  • When Someone Can’t Consent: If a loved one is unable to give permission, we only proceed if their family truly knows and trusts that this aligns with what the individual would want.

What to Expect (and How to Receive It)

Distance healing and Reiki do not “cure” illness, but they are wonderful tools to nurture a deep sense of calm, release anxiety, lighten emotional burdens, and bring in feelings of peace or joy.

Some of the most wonderful moments in my practice happen when a client reports feeling an overwhelming sense of peace during or after the session.

Distance healing should feel empowering, nurturing and uplifting, in whatever way that is for the individual.
